Connect NiceNIC MCP to ChatGPT
NiceNIC MCP lets ChatGPT check domain availability through the NiceNIC domain service. This guide shows how to add the MCP server to ChatGPT and run a safe availability check.
Before you start
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Use a ChatGPT account that can access Developer mode and custom apps/plugins.
-
Have the NiceNIC MCP server URL ready:
https://mcp.nicenic.com/mcp.
Safety note: The example below checks availability only. It does not register or purchase a domain, change DNS, or submit billing information.
1. Open ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT and start a new chat.
2. Enable Developer mode
- Open the account menu in the lower-left corner.
- Select Settings.
- Open Security and login.
- Turn on Developer mode if it is disabled.
Developer mode is required before ChatGPT will accept a custom MCP app/plugin.
3. Open Plugins and start a custom app
- In the left sidebar, select Plugins.
- On the Plugins page, click the + button.
- Choose Create app (or the equivalent custom app option shown in your account).
4. Enter the NiceNIC MCP details
In the new app form, enter a name such as NiceNIC Domain MCP. The name can be any clear label you prefer.
For the server/connection URL, enter:
https://mcp.nicenic.com/mcp
Keep the connection type and authentication settings at their defaults unless ChatGPT asks for a different value.
5. Create the app
Review the name and server URL, then click Create. ChatGPT will add the NiceNIC MCP app to your account.
6. Sign in and authorize access
When ChatGPT opens the NiceNIC authorization page:
- Sign in to your NiceNIC account.
- Review the requested access.
- Click Authorize to allow ChatGPT to use the MCP connection.
Do not share your password or verification codes in the chat. The authorization page handles sign-in securely.
7. Select NiceNIC MCP in a chat
Return to the ChatGPT composer and click the + button. Select NiceNIC Domain MCP from the available apps/plugins.
You can also leave it unselected and ask a domain question directly; ChatGPT may call the enabled MCP app when it is relevant.
8. Check a domain's availability
Send a request such as:
Check whether nicenicmcpdemo.com is available. Do not register or purchase it.
ChatGPT will call NiceNIC MCP and return the availability result in the conversation.
Verify the connection
The setup is complete when ChatGPT returns a domain availability result and identifies NiceNIC MCP as the tool used. If the app is missing, revisit Settings > Security and login to confirm Developer mode is enabled, then check the Plugins page and repeat authorization.
