What Is a Premium Domain? Pricing, Renewal Costs and How It Works

A premium domain is priced above the extension's standard rate because the registry or an existing registrant considers the name unusually valuable. Identify which type is being sold, because the purchase, transfer and renewal costs can be very different.

Two Types of Premium Domain

  • Aftermarket premium: an existing registrant sets a one-time sale price. After delivery, standard renewal and transfer pricing may apply for the extension.
  • Registry premium: the registry assigns a premium tier. Premium pricing can apply to registration, renewal and transfer.

Before You Buy

  1. Confirm whether the domain is an aftermarket listing or registry premium.
  2. Check the acquisition price.
  3. Check the renewal price separately.
  4. Review the transfer or account-delivery process.
  5. Confirm the supported registration term; NiceNIC's current guidance says registry-premium orders may be limited to one year per registration or renewal order.
  6. Review the exact domain and total cost before payment.

After Purchase

Verify that the domain appears in the correct NiceNIC account, confirm the registrant data and record the renewal price for future budgeting.

Important

A premium price does not provide trademark rights, guaranteed traffic, search ranking or guaranteed resale value. Perform legal and commercial checks before purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a premium domain renew at a standard price?

An aftermarket purchase may later use standard extension pricing, but registry-premium names can retain premium renewal pricing. Always check the displayed renewal amount.

Can I register a registry-premium domain for several years at once?

NiceNIC's current guide says registry-premium names can be registered or renewed for one year per order. Confirm the live checkout rule before payment.
