What Is the Maximum Amount of Years I Can Register a Domain for?

For domain extensions that follow the standard maximum, the registration term cannot extend more than 10 years from the current date. The number of years you can add therefore depends on the domain's existing expiry date, and some TLDs allow a shorter maximum.

How the 10-Year Limit Works

Suppose a domain has 4 years and 5 months remaining. Only 5 complete renewal years can be added because adding 6 years would take the total remaining term beyond 10 years. Renewal periods are normally purchased in full-year increments.

Check the Available Term

  1. Open the domain in NiceNIC.
  2. Check its current registry expiry date.
  3. Review the renewal terms offered for that extension.
  4. Subtract the remaining registration time from the TLD's maximum permitted term.
  5. Choose a full-year renewal period that stays within the limit.
  6. Confirm the new expiry date after payment.

TLD Exceptions

Not every extension supports a 10-year term. The registry may allow fewer years, fixed terms or special renewal periods. Use the options displayed for the exact TLD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add another 10 years to a domain that already has time remaining?

No. For standard 10-year-limit domains, the current remaining term and the added term together cannot exceed 10 years.

Can I renew for part of a year?

Normally no. Domain renewal terms are generally added in whole years, subject to the TLD's rules.
