.NU Domain Registration Requirements

Quick Answer

.NU registrations may have eligibility, contact, document or local-presence requirements. Review the current requirements in this guide before ordering, and make sure the registrant data exactly matches any supporting documents.

Before You Begin

  • Use legal names and addresses that match the supporting documents.
  • Confirm the registrant meets the extension's eligibility rules.
  • Keep an accessible email address for registry or NiceNIC verification.

NiceNIC Instructions

.NU is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) assigned to the island state of Niue. Basically, everyone in the world can register a .NU domain. However, Personal ID or Organization ID and VAT ID (for Swedish organizations only) as extended attributes are required. The details you'll need to submit will depend on the Registrant type: Swedish residents: Individual: Personal Identification Number (sample format: [SE]123456-1234). Company/business: Organization Identification Number (sample format:[SE]123456-1234) and VAT ID in the "VAT Number" field.

Non-Swedish residents: Individual: ID number (e.g., Civic registration number, or the equivalent) in the following format: [CC]1234567890000. [CC] is to be replaced with actual country code: [PK], [UK], [US] etc. Organization: Company registration number (or the equivalent), VAT ID is optional for all non-Swedish residents. Company registration number should start with ISO 3166 Alpha-2 country code in square brackets (e.g. [US] for United States), followed by 1 to 123 characters. It will look like [US]123456789.

TIP
: You may also fill in extended attributes in advance or after domain registration so that they are used for all your future registrations.

How to Verify

Confirm that the order is active rather than pending document review. Check the registry status and make sure the saved registrant data matches the approved information.

Troubleshooting

  • The registrant selected the wrong eligibility category.
  • The name, organization or address differs between the order and document.
  • A document is expired, unclear, incomplete or unsupported.
  • A local-presence, intended-use or nexus rule has not been satisfied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the registry request more information?

Yes. Registry and compliance reviews may request additional evidence even after an order is submitted.

What happens if the information does not match?

The registration may remain pending or be rejected until the registrant data and documents are corrected.

When should I submit a ticket?

Submit a ticket before ordering if eligibility is unclear, or after ordering if the registry requests information not covered by the upload flow.
