.RU Reached the 5 Million Domain Mark

Not long ago this year, the fifth million .RU domain name was listed, which was a serious action for the Russian name space.

The preceding limit of 4 million domain names was labeled on 17 September 2012.
On November 5th, 2015, RoominStyle.ru was registered as the 5-millionth domain name on .Ru by REG.RU.
When this article was written .RU was taken the 6th place among the world’s national domains in the number of registered names
and was included in the 10th from all the gTLDs.

Andrei Vorobyov, the Coordination Center CEO, announced that “this number of domain names in .RU it is an important aspect
awaited for everyone. Although not a good economic situation, we succeed to reach this rate of domain names, meaning that the
Russian Internet will grow fastly. Over 870, 000 domain names are in the second Russian national Cyrillic domain .РФ, there is a
recording in new Russian domains .MOSCOW .ДЕТИ, .TATAR, .МОСКВА, .РУС, and the list can continue. Thus the total number of
the Russian domain space is getting close to 6 million names.”
On April 7th, 1994 ICANN assigned the .RU domain name to Russia and the first million of names was recorded in 2007. Years later
the zone widened three times and by September 2012 there were exactly 4,000,000 names in the domain. Nowadays 33 certified

registrars work in .RU, the largest of them being Ragtime (7%), R01 (16%), Ru.Center (29%), REG.RU (31%) and SaleNames (5,5%).
