Ready to transfer your domain to NiceNIC? You can move an eligible domain from your current registrar without changing your domain name, website hosting provider, or email service.
The usual process is simple: unlock your domain, obtain its authorization code (also called an Auth Code or EPP Code), and submit your transfer request through NiceNIC.
NiceNIC is an ICANN-accredited registrar offering individual domain transfers, bulk transfers of up to 500 domains per submission, free WHOIS Privacy for eligible extensions, and domain management through its control panel, API v2, and WHMCS integration.
Before transferring, check three things:
- Eligibility: Is your domain unlocked and allowed to transfer?
- Cost: What is the transfer price, and does it include an additional year?
- Continuity: Will your current DNS service remain active after the transfer?

Is Your Domain Ready to Transfer?
Before placing an order, check which situation applies to your domain.
For generic top-level domains (gTLDs), ICANN’s Transfer Policy permits certain transfer restrictions, including during the first 60 days after initial registration or a previous inter-registrar transfer. A qualifying Change of Registrant may also trigger a 60-day transfer lock.
Country-code domains can follow different registry procedures.
If you're unsure whether your domain is eligible, review the ICANN Transfer Policy or contact NiceNIC before ordering.
How Much Does It Cost to Transfer a Domain to NiceNIC?
A domain transfer is not necessarily free, even when there is no separate registrar transfer service fee.
NiceNIC publishes domain pricing without an additional hidden registrar service charge for standard transfer transactions. However, the transfer itself normally carries a fee associated with the applicable registry transfer or renewal operation.
For many gTLDs, a successful transfer also extends the domain’s registration period by one year, subject to registry rules and maximum registration-term restrictions.
Does a Domain Transfer Include an Extra Year?
For most standard gTLD inter-registrar transfers, a successful transfer extends the registration period by one year.
For example, if an eligible domain expires on March 15, 2027, a successful one-year-extending transfer would generally move the expiration date to March 15, 2028.
However, not every extension follows this model.
Some ccTLDs have different transfer and renewal arrangements. Certain gTLD transfers are also subject to a maximum registration period of ten years.
Important exception: Recently auto-renewed domains
If your domain recently expired and was automatically renewed by the registry, transferring it during the applicable Auto-Renew Grace Period can affect how the additional year is calculated.
For example, under the .COM registry’s standard 45-day Auto-Renew Grace Period, a transfer cancels the year added by the registry’s automatic renewal and replaces it with the year associated with the transfer. You should not expect an additional year on top of the automatically renewed expiration date.
If you already paid your previous registrar for renewal, check its refund policy before transferring. The refund treatment depends on the registrar’s terms and the circumstances of the transaction.
Always check the resulting expiration date and total cost before transferring a recently renewed or expired domain.
How to Transfer Your Domain to NiceNIC
Most eligible gTLD transfers follow five main steps.
Step 1: Unlock Your Domain at Your Current Registrar
Sign in to the registrar where your domain is currently registered.
Find your domain management or security settings and look for an option such as:
- Domain Lock
- Registrar Lock
- Transfer Lock
- Unlock Domain
For many gTLDs, the status clientTransferProhibited prevents a transfer until the applicable lock is removed.
Your registrar may also apply other transfer restrictions. Unlocking the domain does not automatically override registry rules or other valid restrictions.
Step 2: Obtain Your Auth Code or EPP Code
Your current registrar provides the authorization code used for most standard gTLD transfers.
Depending on the registrar, you may find it in your account dashboard or request it through a domain management option.
An Auth Code may also be labeled:
- EPP Code
- Authorization Code
- AuthInfo Code
- Transfer Code
These terms generally describe the credential used to authorize an inter-registrar transfer.
Keep the code confidential.
Under ICANN’s Transfer Policy, a registrar that does not provide a self-service method must supply the AuthInfo code within five calendar days of a valid request.
For more details, read What Is a Domain Transfer Authorization Code (EPP Code), and Where Do I Find It?.
Step 3: Submit Your Transfer Request to NiceNIC
Open the official NiceNIC Domain Transfer Page.
Enter your domain name and the corresponding Auth/EPP Code.
Before confirming the order:
- Check the domain name carefully.
- Review the displayed transfer price and registration term.
- Read the applicable transfer policy.
- Confirm that your account has the necessary payment method or balance.
- Submit the request.
Make sure you can receive any transfer-related emails or verification requests.
Depending on the applicable process, further authorization or confirmation may be required.
Step 4: Monitor the Transfer
After a valid transfer request is accepted, the relevant registry and registrars process it according to their transfer rules.
Under the standard ICANN gTLD process, the registry generally completes the transfer within five calendar days unless it receives a valid rejection or another applicable restriction prevents completion.
Some transfers may finish sooner. Certain ccTLDs and exceptional cases can take longer.
Monitor the transfer through your NiceNIC account and respond to any required notifications.
A successful payment or submitted request does not mean that the registrar transfer has already completed.
Step 5: Verify Your Domain After Completion
Once the transfer is complete, check the following:
- NiceNIC is shown as the expected sponsoring registrar.
- The expiration date reflects the applicable transfer terms.
- Your nameservers remain correctly configured.
- Your website and email continue functioning.
- Your registrant contact information is accurate.
- Any eligible WHOIS Privacy service is configured as expected.
You can use NiceNIC WHOIS Lookup to review available registration information.
Will Transferring Your Domain Affect Your Website, Email, or SEO?
A registrar transfer does not inherently require changing your website hosting, moving your email, or changing your domain’s DNS records.
If your existing nameservers remain unchanged and the authoritative DNS service continues operating, your website and email should generally remain available.
However, there is one important situation to check.
What If Your Current Registrar Also Provides Your DNS?
Imagine that your domain uses the following nameservers:
ns1.oldregistrar.example
ns2.oldregistrar.example
Your website might be hosted by a completely different company, while your old registrar still provides the DNS service.
If that DNS service is discontinued after you transfer your domain away, visitors may no longer be able to reach your website. Your business email could also be affected.
This problem is caused by the loss of DNS service, not by the registrar transfer itself.
Before transferring a business-critical domain:
- Record your existing nameservers.
- Keep a copy of important DNS records, including A, CNAME, MX, and relevant TXT records.
- Confirm whether your current DNS provider will continue serving the domain.
- Check DNSSEC settings if you are also planning a DNS provider change.
- If necessary, arrange a separate DNS migration before or around the transfer.
Changing registrars alone does not normally require changing your URLs or website content, so it should not directly change your search rankings. DNS failures, however, can affect website accessibility and search engine crawling.

Need to Move Multiple Domains? Use NiceNIC Bulk Transfer
Transferring one domain manually is straightforward. Moving dozens or hundreds individually takes considerably more coordination.
NiceNIC’s Bulk Domain Transfer tool supports up to 500 domains per submission.
Instead of opening a separate transfer form for every domain, prepare a list containing each domain name and its corresponding Auth/EPP Code.
The required format is one domain and code per line, separated by a space:
In the bulk transfer form, enter each pair on a separate line:
example.com AUTHCODE123
example.net AUTHCODE456
example.org AUTHCODE789
These are illustrative values, not real authorization credentials.
Before Submitting a Bulk Transfer
Check that every domain:
- Is eligible for transfer.
- Has the applicable registrar lock removed.
- Has a valid authorization code.
- Is not blocked by a registry restriction.
- Has a suitable expiration date and transfer plan.
- Will retain functioning DNS service.
A single bulk submission does not eliminate individual registry checks. Some domains may complete successfully while others require separate attention.
For businesses moving large portfolios, consider testing a few representative domains before transferring the full group.

Domain Transfers Through API v2 and WHMCS
For hosting providers, agencies, developers, and domain resellers, transfers may be part of a recurring business workflow rather than occasional manual operations.
NiceNIC provides three management approaches:
NiceNIC Domain API v2
NiceNIC Domain API v2 is available to both Market Accounts and Reseller Accounts.
You do not need to upgrade to a reseller pricing tier simply to access the API.
API access and reseller pricing are separate. Market Accounts use their applicable Market pricing, while Reseller Accounts use the prices assigned to their current level.
The API supports domain-related operations such as:
- Domain availability checks
- Registration and renewal
- Transfer requests
- Domain information queries
- Nameserver and contact management
- Account-specific domain pricing queries
Before placing live transfer orders through the API, test authentication and response handling using NiceNIC’s documented integration workflow.
For paid operations, verify the price and account balance. A successful transfer-request response should not be confused with final transfer completion.
NiceNIC WHMCS Integration
If you already use WHMCS to manage hosting customers, NiceNIC provides a registrar module that supports eligible domain registration, renewal, transfer, and management operations.
This can help hosting providers handle supported domain transactions through their existing WHMCS environment.
Before moving live customer domains, verify the module configuration, API credentials, account pricing, and supported TLD operations.

Why Transfer Your Domain to NiceNIC?
The right registrar should make it easier to understand your ongoing domain costs and manage your portfolio.
NiceNIC offers several features that may be relevant depending on your needs.
1. ICANN-Accredited Registrar
NiceNIC is an ICANN-accredited registrar with IANA Registrar ID 3765 and has operated in the domain industry since 2006.
For supported gTLDs, transfers are handled within the applicable ICANN and registry policy framework.
2. Clear Registration and Renewal Pricing
The real cost of a domain extends beyond a first-year promotion.
NiceNIC publishes domain registration, renewal, and applicable transfer pricing, allowing customers to compare immediate costs with longer-term expenses.
Before transferring a portfolio, review both transfer costs and future renewal rates.
3. Free WHOIS Privacy for Eligible Extensions
NiceNIC provides free WHOIS Privacy for eligible domain extensions where the applicable registry rules and registrar service support it.
This may help limit the public exposure of eligible personal contact details.
However, privacy availability differs by TLD. Some ccTLD registries use their own registration-data disclosure rules, and others may not support a separate privacy service.
Customers should check the exact requirements of their domain extension before relying on privacy protection.

4. Bulk Domain and Portfolio Management
Managing domains across multiple registrars can create extra work when tracking expiration dates, updating nameservers, or maintaining separate accounts.
NiceNIC provides a central control panel and bulk domain tools for eligible domains.
For portfolio owners, this can make routine administration and renewal planning easier to organize.
5. API and Reseller Options
NiceNIC provides API access for eligible Market and Reseller Accounts, WHMCS integration, and separate reseller pricing levels.
This gives businesses the flexibility to begin with standard account management and adopt more automated workflows as their needs grow.

When Should You Wait Before Transferring?
Moving a domain to a new registrar can be beneficial, but it is not always the best immediate action.
Consider resolving existing issues first if:
- Your domain is very close to expiration and a delayed transfer could create operational risk.
- You cannot obtain the correct Auth/EPP Code.
- Your domain has an applicable registrar or registry transfer restriction.
- A dispute or hold affects transfer eligibility.
- Your current registrar provides essential DNS services and continuity is uncertain.
- You recently changed registrant information and may be subject to a transfer lock.
- Your ccTLD requires additional documentation or a special transfer procedure.
If the domain recently expired or renewed, check its lifecycle status and the effect of transferring on the final expiration date.

Domain Transfer FAQs
Can I transfer an expired domain to NiceNIC?
An expired gTLD may still be transferable.
Under ICANN’s Transfer Policy, expiration or nonrenewal alone is generally not a valid reason to deny a transfer. However, valid restrictions may still apply, including certain unpaid previous registration fees.
If the domain has entered the Redemption Grace Period, it generally must be restored by the current registrar before an inter-registrar transfer can proceed.
ccTLD transfer and expiration rules may differ.
Can I transfer a domain without an EPP Code?
Most standard gTLD inter-registrar transfers require an AuthInfo/EPP Code.
Some ccTLDs use different authorization processes. Check the requirements for the specific extension before placing an order.
How long does a domain transfer take?
Many standard gTLD transfers complete within approximately five calendar days after the registry accepts a valid request, although some finish earlier.
Invalid authorization codes, transfer restrictions, required verification, and ccTLD-specific processes can affect timing.
Will transferring my domain change its owner?
A standard inter-registrar transfer changes the sponsoring registrar, not necessarily the domain’s registered holder.
Your registrant information should remain accurate throughout the process. A separate ownership change may require additional verification or trigger different policies.
Is a domain push the same as a domain transfer?
No.
A domain push generally moves a domain between customer accounts at the same registrar.
An inter-registrar transfer moves domain sponsorship from one registrar to another.
These operations have different procedures and may have different fees.
Can I transfer several domains with different extensions at the same time?
NiceNIC supports bulk transfer submissions for eligible domains, but individual TLDs may have different authorization codes, restrictions, pricing, or transfer procedures.
Check the requirements for every extension before submitting the batch.
Ready to Transfer Your Domain to NiceNIC?
You don’t need to move your entire domain portfolio at once.
Start with one eligible domain, confirm its transfer price and renewal terms, check DNS continuity, and evaluate how NiceNIC’s management tools fit your needs.
