Questions before registering .COM.AU?
Answers about Australian eligibility, business numbers, trade mark matching, licence terms and domain management.
Who can register a .COM.AU domain?
Eligible commercial entities with an Australian Presence can apply. NiceNIC offers ABN, ACN, ARBN and Australian Trade Mark as eligibility bases in its registration flow. The domain name must also meet auDA allocation rules.
Which details are needed for ABN, ACN or ARBN registration?
Provide the registrant or business name and the number for the eligibility basis you select. Use accurate registrant contact details, including address and telephone number. Existing contact information can be reused in the registration flow instead of entered again.
Can a foreign company register .COM.AU?
A foreign company can qualify if it meets the Australian Presence and commercial-entity requirements, for example through an ARBN or an eligible Australian trade mark. A foreign company registration alone is not sufficient. If the trade mark establishes Australian Presence, the domain must be an exact match of its words under auDA rules.
Which Australian trade mark details should I prepare?
Prepare the trade mark status, Australian Trade Mark Number and Trade Mark Name / Words. The registration flow distinguishes Registered and Pending Application. A pending mark must meet auDA eligibility rules; the rules define a pending trade mark as an application with published or accepted status in the IP Australia database.
When does the trade mark exact-match requirement apply?
When you rely on an Australian trade mark to establish Australian Presence, the domain must include all trade mark words in their original order, subject to the exclusions allowed by auDA. Extra words or a different order are not permitted under this exact-match rule. If the name does not qualify, choose a matching domain or another valid eligibility basis.
Do I need a physical address in Australia?
Not necessarily. auDA does not use a business physical address to determine eligibility for com.au or net.au. You must still meet Australian Presence and commercial-entity requirements and provide accurate registrant contact information. Ask NiceNIC support about any additional address requirements for your order.
How long can I register or renew .COM.AU?
auDA permits licence terms of 1 to 5 years. Select a term available in the NiceNIC order form and remain eligible throughout the licence term. Registration and renewal prices are shown separately; confirm your account-level price before payment.
Does transferring the domain change its registrant?
A registrar transfer moves management of a domain; it does not automatically change the licence holder. A change of registrant is a separate process, and the new licence holder must meet eligibility requirements. Contact support before transferring a domain as part of a business sale.
Can I register multiple names through bulk search or the API?
Yes. Check availability and prices using bulk search or NiceNIC reseller tools. Every domain must independently meet the applicable eligibility and name-allocation requirements, including exact matching when a trade mark establishes Australian Presence.
What happens if my business or trade mark eligibility changes?
You must continue to meet eligibility requirements while holding the domain. Keep your registrant and eligibility details up to date. Contact NiceNIC if a linked business number is cancelled, a trade mark changes status or the licence holder changes.
