We would like to inform you of an important update that will impact the registration and renewal of .ru, .su, and .рф domains. According to the latest regulations from the Russian government, starting from September 1, 2026, all .ru, .su, and .рф domains will be required to undergo mandatory identity verification.
Details of the New Requirement:
Identity Verification: In order to ensure the legitimacy and accuracy of domain registration information, all registrants will need to verify their identity via the official Russian government e‑service platform Gosuslugi (ESIA).
Scope of the Requirement: This will apply to both new domain registrations and the renewal of existing domains. Domains that have not undergone identity verification will not be eligible for registration or renewal.
Verification Process: Verification will be carried out through the Gosuslugi platform, available for individuals and entities within Russia. The verification process for non-Russian users is still being developed.
Why is this Policy Being Implemented?
This measure aims to strengthen the security of domain registrations, ensuring that all domain owners are verified and that domain information is reliable. This will also help create a more transparent and secure internet environment.
Action Required:
If you plan to register new .ru, .su, or .рф domains before this date, we recommend completing the identity verification as soon as possible to ensure smooth registration.
If your domain is about to expire, please ensure you renew it before September 1, 2026, and complete the identity verification during the renewal process.
Important: Your Domain Is Not Automatically Deleted on September 1
An existing .ru, .рф, or .su domain does not automatically disappear on September 1 simply because the administrator has not yet completed ESIA verification.
Under the current official guidance, an existing domain may continue through its current registration term if no operation requiring verification is performed.
The practical risk appears when the domain needs to be renewed or another significant domain operation must be completed. Without the required identification, that operation may not be possible.
If the domain eventually expires and cannot be renewed, its delegation may stop and the registration may later be cancelled according to the applicable expiration process.
