The total number of registered .com domains fell again during the past quarter.
The number of registered .com domain names fell last quarter, the second consecutive quarter-over-quarter fall.
As of September 30, the last day of Q3, there were approximately 160.9 million registered .com domain names, according to data provided on Verisign's (NASDAQ: VRSN) website. That's down from 161.1 million, as reported in the company's Q2 financial results.
The .net zone stayed about the same through the quarter, ending at 13.2 million domain names.
The company has previously cited three reasons for the decline in registrations:
1. A hangover from the Covid boom, with registration numbers returning to pre-pandemic levels
2. Global macroeconomic headwinds
3. Fewer registrations in China and higher registrations there last year that are renewing at lower rates
