The global domain name market continued to grow in the second quarter of 2026, showing that domain names remain a core part of digital identity, online branding, and business infrastructure.
According to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief Quarterly Report from DNIB.com, the second quarter of 2026 closed with 401.6 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains. This represented an increase of 9.1 million registrations, or 2.3%, compared with the first quarter of 2026. Year over year, global domain registrations increased by 29.9 million, or 8.1%.
The report also showed continued strength in established domain categories. The .com and .net domain base reached a combined 179.1 million registrations at the end of Q2 2026. As of June 30, 2026, .com accounted for 166.6 million registrations, while .net accounted for 12.5 million registrations. New .com and .net registrations totaled 12.7 million during the quarter, compared with 10.4 million in the same quarter of 2025.
Country-code top-level domains also continued to play an important role in the global market. Total ccTLD registrations reached 148.6 million at the end of Q2 2026, up 2.3 million, or 1.6%, from the previous quarter. Year over year, ccTLD registrations increased by 5.2 million, or 3.6%. The top 10 ccTLDs listed in the report were .cn, .de, .uk, .ru, .nl, .br, .fr, .au, .in, and .eu.
For businesses and online projects, the data reinforces a simple point: domain names are not being replaced by social platforms, mobile apps, or AI tools. They continue to serve as the foundation for websites, email, brand protection, search visibility, and customer trust.
