What Are Trustee Services and How Does It Work?
Some country-code domains require a local administrative contact, local address, licensed organization or other country-specific eligibility information. A trustee service is an arrangement through which an authorized local party may help an eligible customer meet the particular registry's requirements. It is not a universal shortcut around registry rules, and availability differs by extension.
When might a trustee be useful?
Consider a domain such as .SG: SGNIC permits foreign applicants, but its rules include a local administrative-contact requirement. Whether NiceNIC can supply an eligible local agent for the particular order must be confirmed before purchase. A different ccTLD may have completely different rules.
Do not assume .DE requires a German Admin-C. DENIC discontinued that contact role in 2018; foreign individuals and organizations can register .DE domains without the former Admin-C arrangement. A trustee should never be sold on the basis of that obsolete requirement.
What a trustee arrangement can—and cannot—do
Depending on the registry and contractual structure, the trustee may act as a local contact, representative or even the recorded registrant. These are not equivalent roles. Before agreeing, ask:
- Who will be shown as the legal registrant/right holder in registry records?
- Who controls renewals, DNS changes, transfers and any future change of registrant?
- What documents must the customer provide, and can the registry review them later?
- What is the trustee-service fee, how often is it billed, and what happens if the service ends?
- Are there restrictions on use, transfer or resale of the domain?
A trustee does not guarantee registration approval, immunity from disputes, or exemption from accurate-contact rules.
Request the service through NiceNIC
- Identify the exact extension and your intended registrant type (individual, company, nonprofit, etc.).
- Review its registry eligibility requirements and check whether a NiceNIC trustee option is available for that extension.
- Before placing the order, request the current trustee agreement, required documents, total first-year cost and renewal terms from NiceNIC Support.
- Submit the registration and any authorized documentation through the approved account process; sign the relevant agreement where applicable.
- After approval, confirm the domain's recorded contacts, renewal responsibilities and control arrangements.
