Domain Registrations in India more than Doubled to 4%

With a rapidly growing number of Internet users and a surge in e-commerce transactions, the average monthly domain name registrations in India has more than doubled to 4 per cent of all global registrations, according to industry estimates.  

This, however, is way behind the additions in China, which accounts for 20-22 per cent of monthly new domain name registrations globally.

There is also a huge rise in the numbers of Internet users in India, thanks to the surge in online shopping.

On the huge numbers in China, which is the largest online market, China has also doubled its rate of domain name additions.  

According to former Wall Street-analyst-turned late-stage-venture-capitalist Mary Meeker, while the number of online users has plateaued in the last two-three years globally, India is among the top countries that is adding new online users. There are 232 million Internet users in India, which is growing over 37 per cent and 65 per cent of them access the net from their mobiles.
