For the first time in years, there is real movement around the .WEB domain extension.
Verisign announced on July 22, 2026 that .WEB had been delegated into the global DNS root zone, with Verisign named as its registry operator. The announcement came after roughly a decade of auctions, objections, legal challenges and ICANN proceedings.
That is a major step. However, it does not mean that people can register .WEB domains today.

A TLD must be delegated before it can function in the public DNS.
But delegation is only one part of launching a new domain extension. The registry must still complete its commercial launch process, connect participating registrars, publish registration policies and announce the different launch phases.

When Will .WEB Domains Become Available?
Verisign's initial announcement said it planned to begin offering .WEB domains through its channel partners later in 2026.
During the company's second-quarter earnings call on July 23, management left slightly more room in the schedule, suggesting that the commercial launch could take place in late 2026 or very early 2027. Verisign also said it did not expect meaningful .WEB revenue or expenses during 2026.
.WEB is coming, but there is no confirmed public registration date yet.
